UGC NET application: uploads, certificates, correction

UGC NET applications usually open a few weeks before each cycle, so the safest way to prepare is with last cycle's rules. In the June 2025 information bulletin on ugcnet.nta.ac.in, NTA asked for a JPG photo of 10KB to 200KB and a JPG signature of 4KB to 30KB. It also gave a one-time correction window after registration closed. When the bulletin for your cycle is out, check it against this page.

The dates for the next cycle are not confirmed here. On the day we checked (27 September 2026), the ugcnet.nta.ac.in homepage still listed the June 2025 bulletin as the latest. Treat every figure below as "June 2025" until a newer bulletin replaces it.

Documents to keep ready

The bulletin's checklist asks you to have these at hand while filling the form. Most are not uploaded, but the details must match them.

• Board or university certificate showing your name, mother's name, father's name and date of birth.
• An identity detail: bank passbook with photograph, passport number, ration card, Aadhaar, voter ID or other government ID.
• Qualifying degree certificate or last semester mark sheet.
• Category certificate, EWS certificate or PwD certificate, where they apply.
• Four exam city choices, your NET subject code and your postgraduate subject and course codes.

The bulletin also says candidates were not required to send certificates in support of eligibility with the application. NTA can ask for them later, so keep every certificate scanned and named clearly.

Category certificates: the mistake to avoid

For OBC, NTA's bulletin refers to the Central List of OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) on the NCBC website. It says State list OBC candidates who are not in the Central List should choose General. Choosing the wrong category is the mistake that costs the most, because the bulletin says NTA does not guarantee any change in category after the form is submitted, and none at all after the result. Check your certificate against the Central List before you tick the box.

The correction window

In June 2025 the bulletin gave registration from 16 April to 7 May 2025 and correction on 9 and 10 May. A public notice of 8 May 2025 extended registration to 12 May (fee to 13 May) and moved correction to 14 and 15 May 2025 (up to 11:59 P.M.). The correction notice of 13 May 2025 called it a one-time facility, with extra fee payable where applicable. The lesson: the window is short, may move, and is announced on the NTA site.

The window did not let you fix everything. In June 2025 only date of birth, category, father's name and mother's name could be changed. Name, gender, photo and signature, mobile number, email, addresses and exam city were locked. So a blurry photo or a wrong signature could not be replaced later: get both right before you submit.

Step by step: get ready before the form opens

1. Open ugcnet.nta.ac.in and download the newest information bulletin. Read the upload part, then check the correction notice for which fields can be changed.
2. Take a plain white background photo with your face and both ears visible, then run it through the photo resizer.
3. Sign on white paper with a blue or black pen in running handwriting, scan it and follow our phone signature scanning guide.
4. Check both files against the KB limits in the bulletin you are using.
5. Collect the certificates from the list above and match spellings to your Class 10 certificate.
6. Register with your own email and mobile number, fill the form, upload the images and pay the fee. Note the application number.
7. Download the confirmation page, and mark the correction window dates in your calendar.

Common reasons a UGC NET form gets into trouble

• Edited or computer-made photo: the bulletin warns that a photo that looks hand-made, de-shaped or computer made can lead to rejection, and that Polaroid and computer-generated photos are not acceptable. Use a plain recent photo and only resize and crop it.
• Name mismatch: spelling your name differently from your Class 10 certificate creates trouble later, when the admit card and certificates are checked.
• More than one form: the bulletin says a candidate may submit only one application form, and multiple forms can lead to rejection or cancellation.
• Fee left unpaid: filling the form is not enough. The bulletin treats the application as successful only after the fee transaction succeeds.

Keep 6 to 8 passport size colour photographs with a white background, as the bulletin advises, and upload a scan of the same photo, because one is pasted on the attendance sheet at the exam centre.

Checklist before you submit

• Photo is JPG within the bulletin's KB range and shows your face and ears clearly: it cannot be changed in the correction window.
• Signature is a real signature, not your name in capitals.
• Category matches a valid certificate, and OBC follows the Central List.
• Name and date of birth match your Class 10 certificate.
• Fee payment is completed: the application counts only after payment succeeds.
• Confirmation page saved as a PDF.
