Why convert a GIF to MP4?
GIF is a very inefficient format for animation. It stores every frame with a limited 256-colour palette and simple compression, so a few seconds of animation can easily weigh 5 to 20 MB. MP4 with the H.264 codec only stores what changes between frames, and usually produces a file 5 to 20 times smaller that also looks better, with smoother colours.
Several places also refuse GIFs outright or treat them as still images. Instagram posts and stories need video, WhatsApp status plays video more reliably than GIF, and many upload forms accept MP4 but not animated images. Converting solves all of that.
Repeat option
A GIF loops forever on its own. An MP4 plays once and stops, unless the player is set to loop. If your GIF is a short 1 or 2 second loop, choose 2, 3 or 5 times so the video is long enough to watch. Some platforms, including Instagram, also have a minimum video length, and repeating the loop helps you meet it.
Quality settings
Balanced is visually identical to the GIF for almost all animations. High quality keeps fine pixel art and text perfectly crisp. Smaller file suits memes and reactions where size matters more than detail. Whichever you pick, the picture cannot become better than the original GIF, because the GIF has already lost colour information.

Sizes to expect
