What size should my UPSC photo and signature be?
For the UPSC online application, upload your photo and signature to FixDoks's UPSC resizer and download photo.jpg (20 to 200 KB) and signature.jpg (20 to 100 KB, 350 to 500 px), the sizes and file names the UPSC portal requires. How to use UPSC Photo and Signature Resizer
- Pick the document tab (photo, signature and so on) and click Select to add a photo or scan from your phone or computer.
- Drag the crop box so the face or signature fills the frame. Signatures are cleaned and trimmed automatically.
- Click Resize. The file is made at the exact pixel size and inside the KB range, and downloads straight away.
- Repeat for each tab, then upload the files to the application form.
UPSC photo and signature specification
The Union Public Service Commission collects your photo and signature in the one time registration (OTR) profile and the online application. As per the UPSC online application FAQ, UPSC's current "Instructions for uploading documents" on the candidate portal ask for the photo as a JPG between 20 KB and 200 KB and the signature as a JPG between 20 KB and 100 KB, 350 to 500 pixels. Each file must be named exactly photo and signature, or the portal will not accept it. This tool makes a 600 × 600 pixel photo and a 450 × 450 pixel signature by default and names the downloads photo.jpg and signature.jpg for you.

How many times do I sign for UPSC?
The Civil Services Examination 2026 notification asks candidates to sign three times, one below the other, on plain white paper with a black ink pen, and to upload the three signatures together as a single image. Leave some space between the signatures. When you upload the photo of the paper here, the tool cleans the background, trims the empty margins and fits the three signatures into the square frame.
Live photo as well
The 2026 notification also asks for a live photograph to be captured in the application form, in addition to the uploaded photo. Use the same look for both: plain light background, good light on the face, no cap or dark glasses.

Face coverage and background
The portal instructions reject photos where the face covers less than three quarters (75%) of the photo, photos that are blurred or tilted, and photos where the ear lobes are not visible. The background must be plain white, with no shadows, no dark glasses and no uniform, and the photo must not be signed. Older UPSC FAQs also asked for the name and date printed on the photo; the current portal instructions do not mention it and their accepted sample photos have no caption. Always check the instructions linked from the notification you are applying under.
Photo tips for UPSC
- Use a recent colour photo with the face clearly visible and looking at the camera.
- A white or very light background works best. Use Make background white if it appears.
- Keep the face large in the frame; the dashed oval shows a good size.
- Keep a copy of the exact photo you upload. The same photo may be needed at later stages.
