How do I convert PDF tables to Excel?

Stop retyping numbers from PDFs
Bank statements, GST reports, price lists, stock registers, exam results and invoices often arrive as PDFs. Copying the table out of a PDF usually gives you a jumble of text in one column. FixDoks finds the tables on each page and writes them into Excel with proper rows and columns, so you can total, filter, sort and build pivot tables straight away.
How are tables detected?
The converter looks at the ruling lines and the position of every word on the page. Where it finds a table grid, each cell becomes an Excel cell. Values that look like numbers, including Indian and international thousands separators such as 1,25,000 or 1,250.50, are stored as real numbers, while codes with leading zeros such as PIN codes, account numbers and phone numbers stay as text so no digits are lost.
Pages without a ruled table are still converted: each line of text becomes a row, split into columns wherever there is a wide gap. This works well for simple statements and reports laid out with spaces.
One sheet per page or one sheet in total
- One sheet per PDF page keeps things easy to check against the original. Good for reports where each page is different.
- Everything on one sheet stacks all pages one after another. Good for long bank statements or registers where the same table continues across pages, so you can sort and filter the whole list at once.
Bank statements
Most bank statement PDFs are password-protected, often with a password built from your name and date of birth or customer ID. Remove the password first with Unlock PDF (you need to know it), then convert. After converting, check the totals against the statement: a wrapped description line can occasionally land in its own row.
Scanned PDFs
If the PDF is a scan or photo, there is no text to extract and you will see a message saying so. Run the file through OCR PDF first, then convert the searchable result. OCR on clean printed tables works well; handwritten or blurry pages do not.
Privacy
After converting: quick clean-up in Excel
- Use Data > Text to Columns if a column holds two values joined together.
- Use Home > Find & Select > Go To Special > Blanks to find and delete empty rows between tables.
- Turn the range into a table with Ctrl+T to get filters and totals instantly.
- Dates may come through as text. Excel's DATEVALUE function or Text to Columns with a date format converts them.
Financial documents are sensitive. Your PDF is processed in an isolated temporary folder and deleted from our server the moment the Excel file is returned.
