What is the passport photo size for India?

How to use Passport Size Photo Maker
- Take a photo facing the camera against a plain light wall, in good even light. Click Select your photo.
- Choose the photo size, for example India 35 × 45 mm or USA 2 × 2 in. Drag the box so the head sits inside the dashed oval, with the top of the hair near the upper line and the chin near the lower line.
- Optional: click Make background white to replace a busy background (shown when your browser supports it).
- Choose a print sheet (4 × 6 in, 5 × 7 in or A4) and the number of copies, then click Create passport photo.

Passport photos at home, at the exact size
Passport, visa, OCI, driving licence, bank KYC, school and job forms all ask for a "passport size photo", but the exact size depends on the country and the document. This tool crops your photo to the right physical size at 300 DPI, so it prints at exactly that size, and then fills a sheet of photo paper with copies and cut lines. A photo shop can print a 4 × 6 inch sheet for a few rupees, which is far cheaper than a studio.

What size is an Indian passport photo?
If you apply at a Passport Seva Kendra or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra, your photo is taken at the centre, so you do not need to bring one. The Passport Seva instruction booklet asks for a pasted photo only on some paper forms, and describes it as a recent colour photo of 4.5 cm × 3.5 cm with a plain white background, dark clothing and a full front view of the face. The India preset produces exactly that size.
Tips for an accepted photo
- Face the camera straight on, with a neutral expression, mouth closed and both eyes open.
- Use soft, even light from the front. Avoid shadows on the face or behind the head.
- Stand about a metre in front of a plain white or off-white wall. Ask someone else to take the photo from about 1.5 metres away at eye level; selfies distort the face.
- Remove caps and tinted glasses. Many countries no longer accept any glasses in passport photos.
- Keep the head straight and the whole head, from hair to chin, inside the dashed oval.
Printing the sheet
Download the PDF and print it at 100% / Actual size, never "Fit to page", or the photos will come out slightly smaller than required. For best results print on glossy or matte photo paper. The dashed cut lines sit in the gaps between photos so you can cut them apart neatly with scissors or a paper trimmer. On a 4 × 6 inch sheet you get eight 35 × 45 mm photos or two US 2 × 2 inch photos.

The single photo download is a JPG at 300 DPI. If a form asks for a specific pixel size or KB range, such as exam forms, use the matching govt form tool, which also controls the file size.
