SSC photo and signature rules
The Staff Selection Commission changed how photographs are collected. As per the SSC notices of examination for CGL 2026 and CHSL 2026, the photograph is not uploaded as a file. It is captured live through your webcam or phone camera while you fill in the application. Only the signature is uploaded as an image. That is why this page has a signature tool and no photo tool.

What is the SSC signature size?
The notices ask for the signature as a JPEG or JPG file between 10 KB and 20 KB, with the image about 6.0 cm wide and 2.0 cm high. SSC does not give a pixel size, so this tool creates 472 × 157 pixels, which is exactly 6.0 × 2.0 cm at 200 DPI, and writes 200 DPI into the file. The notice warns that a blurred or very small signature leads to rejection, so sign boldly across most of the paper.
How to prepare the signature
- Sign on plain white paper with a black or dark blue pen. Sign a little larger than usual so the strokes stay clear when reduced.
- Photograph the paper from directly above in daylight, or scan it. Shadows are fine; the tool evens them out.
- Upload the photo here. Clean up turns the paper white and the ink dark, and Auto-trim removes empty space around the signature.
- Adjust the box if needed and click Resize signature. The file lands between 10 and 20 KB.
The live photo step
For the live photograph, the notice asks you to sit in good light in front of a plain background, keep the camera at eye level, and keep your whole face inside the frame. Caps, masks and spectacles are not allowed, and taking a picture of an existing photograph leads to rejection. Test your webcam or phone camera before you start the form so the session does not time out. Candidates who authenticate with Aadhaar are not rejected on photo or signature grounds, as per the same notices.
