Why send a PDF instead of a Word file?

A Word document can look different on someone else's computer. Fonts get swapped, pictures shift, tables break across pages and page numbers move. A PDF fixes the layout, so what you see is exactly what the other person sees and prints. That is why job portals, colleges, courts and government offices usually ask for PDF uploads, and why a CV or an invoice is best sent as a PDF.

What does this converter keep?

FixDoks converts with a full office engine on our server, not a quick screenshot. The PDF keeps:

  • Text as real, selectable and searchable text (not an image)
  • Fonts, bold, italics, colours and headings
  • Tables, borders and cell shading
  • Images, charts and shapes placed in the document
  • Page size (A4, Letter, Legal), margins, headers, footers and page numbers
  • Clickable links and the heading structure used for PDF bookmarks

Hindi and other Indian languages

Documents typed in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Bengali and other scripts convert correctly as long as the text is Unicode (the default in current Word versions and Google Docs). Very old documents typed with legacy fonts such as Kruti Dev only look right if that exact font is available, so for those files, open the document in Word and use File > Save As > PDF on the computer that has the font.

Tips for a perfect PDF

  • Custom fonts: if you used an unusual font, embed it in Word (File > Options > Save > Embed fonts) before converting, or the closest matching font is used.
  • Track changes and comments: accept or reject changes and delete comments first if you do not want them in the PDF.
  • Large file sizes: documents full of photos can make a big PDF. Run the result through Compress PDF if a portal has an upload limit.
  • Signatures: to add your signature before sending, use Sign Word Document or sign the finished PDF with Sign PDF.

Is it safe?

Converting on a phone

Received a Word file on WhatsApp or email and need to forward it as a PDF? Open this page in Chrome or Safari on your phone, tap Select Word files, pick the document from Downloads or Files, and convert. The PDF saves to your downloads folder, ready to attach or share. No app install is needed, and it works the same on Android and iPhone.

Common questions from offices and students

Assignments, project reports and resumes are the most common files people convert. For a resume, check the PDF for a stray blank last page (usually caused by an empty paragraph at the end of the Word file) and delete it in Word before converting again. For project reports with a table of contents, update the table in Word first (right-click it and choose Update Field) so the page numbers in the PDF are correct.

Your file travels over an encrypted HTTPS connection, is converted in an isolated temporary folder and is deleted from our server as soon as the PDF is sent back to you. Nothing is kept, shared or read by a person.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Word to PDF converter free?
Yes. It is free to use, with no watermark and no daily quota for normal use. You can convert several files at once.
Will my formatting change?
The layout, fonts, tables and images are kept. The only common difference is a rare font that our server does not have, which is replaced by a close match. Embedding fonts in Word avoids this.
Can I convert DOC files from old versions of Word?
Yes. Both the old DOC format (Word 97 to 2003) and the modern DOCX format are supported, as well as ODT and RTF.
Can I convert a password-protected Word file?
No. Remove the password in Word first (File > Info > Protect Document > Encrypt with Password, then clear it), save, and upload again.
What is the maximum file size?
Each file can be up to 50 MB. Most Word documents are far smaller than that.
Are my documents stored?
No. Each file is deleted from our server immediately after the PDF is created and returned to you.
