How to sign a PDF online

FixDoks lets you place a signature on a PDF without printing it, signing it by hand and scanning it back in. Everything happens in your browser: you create a signature once, drop it onto the page, and save a new PDF with the signature embedded as part of the file.

Three ways to create your signature

Draw gives you a smooth pen you can control with a mouse, trackpad or finger on a touchscreen, with a choice of black, blue or red ink and a few thickness options. Type turns your typed name into a handwriting style. Five styles are available: Dancing Script, Great Vibes, Caveat, Allura and Sacramento, so you can pick one that looks closest to your own handwriting. Upload lets you use a photo or scan of your signature on paper. The white background around the ink is removed automatically, and a threshold slider lets you fine-tune how much of the paper texture disappears so only the signature stroke remains.

Initials, dates and marks

Initials work the same way as a full signature: draw, type or upload them, and place them wherever a page needs a short mark instead of a full signature. A date stamp can be added in DD/MM/YYYY, MM/DD/YYYY or a written format like 26 Sep 2026, which matters because many Indian forms expect day first while US forms expect month first. You can also drop in a plain text box for notes, or a tick and cross mark for checklists and forms that ask you to confirm or decline an item.

Saved signatures

Once you draw, type or upload a signature, FixDoks keeps it in this browser so you do not have to recreate it every time you sign a new document. You can add several signatures, for example a full signature and a set of initials, and delete any of them when you no longer need them. These are stored only on your device, not on a server.

Placing and finishing

Tap or click to drop a signature, then drag it into position and use the resize handles to get the size right. Multi-page PDFs have their own page navigation and zoom, so you can check placement on every page before saving. When you save, the signature is embedded as a transparent image on top of the page. The underlying text of the document is not touched or reflowed, so anything that was selectable text stays selectable.

Is an online signature legally valid?

What you create here is a simple electronic signature: an image of a signature placed on a document. Whether that is enough for a particular document depends on where you are and what you are signing, so treat the notes below as a starting point, not legal advice, and read the full disclaimer before relying on it.

India: the Information Technology Act, 2000 recognises electronic signatures and electronic records generally. However, its First Schedule excludes some categories from this recognition, including wills and other testamentary documents, powers of attorney, trust deeds, negotiable instruments other than cheques, and contracts for the sale or transfer of immovable property; these still need a signature in the traditional sense, so check the current rules before relying on an electronic one. Separately, official filings such as income tax return verification, MCA and GST submissions and many e-tenders use a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC), Aadhaar eSign or an OTP-based e-verification instead of a drawn or typed signature, because those processes check your identity. Which option is allowed depends on the filing. A signature made here is not a DSC or Aadhaar eSign.

United States: the federal ESIGN Act and the state-level Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (UETA) both treat an electronic signature as valid for most contracts and business records, provided the signer intended to sign and agreed to sign electronically. Certain documents, such as wills and some family law and court papers, are commonly excluded or handled differently.

European Union: the eIDAS regulation defines three levels: a simple electronic signature like the one you create here, an advanced electronic signature that is more tightly linked to the signer's identity, and a qualified electronic signature, which is the only level treated as equivalent to a handwritten signature and requires a qualified certificate from a trust service provider.

For everyday paperwork such as internal approvals, quotations, letters and most agreements between parties who trust each other, a simple electronic signature is normally accepted. For anything with legal or financial weight where the rules above may apply, confirm the requirement with the receiving party or a professional before relying on a signature made here.
