Edit a PDF the easy way

PDFs are made for reading, not editing. When you need to change a date in an agreement, update an old CV you only have as a PDF, or reuse paragraphs from a report, converting to Word is the quickest route. FixDoks rebuilds the page as a real Word document: running text becomes paragraphs you can type into, tables become Word tables, and pictures stay where they were.

How does the conversion work?

A PDF does not store paragraphs. It stores individual lines and characters at fixed positions. The converter analyses each page, joins lines into paragraphs, detects columns and tables from the ruling lines and spacing, and writes a DOCX with matching fonts, sizes and spacing. For typical documents such as letters, reports, CVs, invoices and forms, the result is very close to the original.

What needs a little clean-up

• Designer layouts with text boxes layered over images (brochures, posters)
• Tables drawn without any lines, which may come out as tab-separated text
• Unusual fonts, which are replaced with the closest standard font

Scanned PDFs need OCR first

If your PDF came from a scanner or a phone camera app, each page is a photo and there is no text inside it to convert. The Word file would just contain the page images. Run the file through OCR PDF first to add a text layer (it supports English, Hindi and many Indian languages), then convert the OCR result to Word. The converter tells you when it detects a scan.

Locked PDFs

A PDF that asks for a password when you open it cannot be converted until the password is removed. If you know the password, use Unlock PDF first. PDFs that open freely but block copying or editing are handled automatically.

Getting the best result

1. Use the original PDF, not a printed-and-scanned copy. PDFs exported from an office app convert far more accurately.
2. After converting, switch Word to Print Layout view to see the pages as they were designed.
3. If spacing looks off, select all and clear manual line spacing, or apply your own styles. The text itself is what matters most.
4. Check tables for merged cells and numbers before reusing figures in a report.

Your PDF is converted on our server in a private temporary folder and deleted as soon as the Word file is returned. We do not keep copies or look at the content.
