From phone photo to clean signature
A photo of a signature taken on a phone rarely looks good: the paper comes out grey or yellow, one corner is darker than the other, and there is a lot of empty space around the signature. Forms and documents need something that looks like a scan: pure white paper, crisp dark ink and a tight crop. This tool does that automatically and then resizes the result to the exact pixel size and file size you need.
What does the cleanup do?
- Evens out lighting. It measures how bright the paper is in every part of the photo and corrects for shadows and gradients, so a photo taken under a lamp looks evenly lit.
- Whitens the paper and darkens the ink. Paper becomes pure white and strokes become solid. You can keep the original ink colour or make it black or blue.
- Trims empty space. It finds the edges of the signature and crops close around it with a small margin.
Use the Cleanup strength slider if thin strokes disappear (lower it) or grey smudges remain (raise it).

Tips for a good signature photo
Sign with a gel or ink pen rather than a ballpoint, because the stroke is darker and more even. Sign on a smooth surface, place the paper on a table near a window, and hold the phone directly above it so the signature is not skewed. Fill most of the frame with the paper.
Why a cleaned signature matters
Upload portals shrink your signature to a small box, often 140 × 60 pixels. At that size, a grey background and soft strokes turn into a muddy smudge that reviewers may reject as unclear. A cleaned signature keeps high contrast even when very small, and it prints better on admit cards and ID cards.
