Why forms ask for a 10 to 20 KB signature
Online application systems store lakhs of signatures, so they set a tight size limit. The most common rule on Indian recruitment and exam forms is a JPG signature between 10 KB and 20 KB. A phone photo of a signature is usually 2 to 5 MB, far too large, and simply compressing it tends to leave a grey, shadowy background that looks unprofessional and is sometimes rejected.

Getting a clean signature from a phone photo
- Sign on plain white paper, a little bigger than usual. Thin pens can look faint when shrunk to 140 pixels wide.
- Use black ink if the form asks for it (bank and Railway forms do). If you only have a blue pen, set Ink to Make ink black.
- Take the photo straight from above, in daylight, without your hand's shadow on the paper.
- If the cleanup removes thin strokes, lower the Cleanup strength. If grey patches remain, raise it.
What if the file is too small?
A tiny 140 × 60 pixel signature on a white background can be under 10 KB even at maximum quality. Some portals reject that. The tool then adds harmless padding inside the JPG file (a comment section that does not change the image) so the file size lands inside the range.
Keep the ratio of your form
When you pick a preset, the crop box takes the same shape as the target size, so your signature is never squashed or stretched. The auto-trim step places the signature in the middle of that shape with a small white margin, which is what most reviewers expect.
