How do I mirror or flip a photo?

How to use Flip Image
- Click Select images and choose one or more photos.
- Tick Flip horizontally to mirror left and right, Flip vertically to turn it upside down, or both.
- Click Flip images and download each result or a ZIP.
Horizontal and vertical flips
A horizontal flip mirrors the image, swapping left and right, as if you were looking at it in a mirror. A vertical flip swaps top and bottom. Doing both at once gives the same result as rotating by 180 degrees.
When you need to mirror a photo
- Selfies with reversed text. Front cameras often save a mirrored picture, so writing on a T-shirt or sign reads backwards. A horizontal flip fixes it.
- Design balance. A person facing out of a banner or slide looks awkward. Flipping the photo makes them face the text instead.
- Printing on transfer paper. Iron-on transfers and some craft printing need the design mirrored before printing so it comes out the right way round on fabric.
- Matching pairs. Create left and right versions of an icon, arrow or product shot.
Be careful with text and faces
Mirroring a photo that contains text, number plates, logos or watches will make them read backwards. Faces also look subtly different when mirrored because nobody is perfectly symmetrical. That is why you may prefer the mirrored selfie: it is the version you see in the mirror every day.
Quality and format
Flipping moves pixels without changing them, so there is no blurring or stretching. The file keeps its original format and size in pixels. JPG images are re-saved once at high quality. Transparent PNGs stay transparent.

Flipping versus mirroring in apps
Many phone camera apps have a "mirror front camera" setting that decides whether selfies are saved mirrored. If your selfies always come out reversed, changing that setting fixes future photos, and this tool fixes the ones you already have. Video call apps also show you a mirrored preview while others see the unmirrored view, which is why text on your shirt looks correct to them and reversed to you.

Flip before printing transfers
For iron-on and sublimation transfers, flip the final design horizontally just before printing, and check that any text reads backwards on screen. Once pressed onto the fabric it will read the right way round.
Flipped files keep their original pixel size and format, so a flipped PNG with transparency stays a transparent PNG and a JPG stays a JPG. Nothing else about the image, such as colours or brightness, is changed.
