How to use Extract PDF Pages

  1. Click Select PDF file to upload your document.
  2. Tap the page thumbnails you want to keep, or type a range like 2, 4-6, 9.
  3. Tick Save each page as a separate PDF if you want individual files instead of one combined PDF.
  4. Click Extract pages and download your file, or the ZIP if you chose separate pages.

Extracting pages, not deleting them

Extracting is about keeping a chosen subset of pages, while everything else is left out of the new file. It differs from splitting: extraction always gives you the pages you picked, in their original order, gathered into one PDF, unless you specifically ask for separate files.

Two ways to choose pages

You can tap page thumbnails one by one, which is the quicker route when you're looking at the document and deciding page by page, especially on a phone or tablet. Or you can type a range such as "2, 4-6, 9" if you already know the page numbers, which is faster for a long document where scrolling through thumbnails would take a while. Both methods can be mixed: type a range first, then tap a couple of extra thumbnails to add to it.

Keeping the original order

Whichever pages you pick, they appear in the output in the same order they had in the source PDF, not the order you tapped them. If page 9 was tapped before page 2, page 2 still comes first in the result. This matters for documents like contracts or reports where page order carries meaning.

One file or many

By default, all the pages you chose are combined into a single new PDF. If you'd rather have a separate file for each page, tick Save each page as a separate PDF before extracting. This is useful when each page needs to go to a different person or a different upload form, for example splitting a scanned ID document's pages for separate submissions.

Typical uses

  • Pulling the signature page out of a long contract to send on its own.
  • Saving just the results pages from a long scanned report.
  • Keeping only the pages of a college brochure that mention a specific course.
  • Separating one page of an ID or certificate scan for an online form that only accepts single-page uploads.

Common problems

  • Range ignores order. This is expected. Page order in the result always follows the source document, not the order pages were typed or tapped.
  • PDF is locked. Extraction changes the file, so a password or permission-protected PDF must be unlocked first at unlock PDF.
  • Wanted to remove pages instead of keeping them. Use remove PDF pages, which is the reverse operation: you mark pages to delete rather than pages to keep.

If you need more flexibility, such as reordering pages or rotating a few of them at the same time as trimming the file down, try organize PDF instead. And if the pages you're extracting need renumbering afterwards, for example when a chapter is being pulled out to stand on its own, add page numbers can restart the numbering at 1.

Frequently asked questions

Does the page order change after extracting?
No. Extracted pages always appear in the output in their original order from the source file, regardless of the order you selected them.
Can I save each extracted page as its own file?
Yes, tick Save each page as a separate PDF before extracting, and you'll get a ZIP with one file per page.
What is the difference between extract and split?
Extract keeps only the pages you choose in one new PDF by default. Split cuts a PDF into pieces by range, count, or page, and can produce several files at once.
Can I type page numbers instead of tapping?
Yes, type a range like 2, 4-6, 9 in the ranges field, or combine typing with tapping thumbnails.
Will this work on a password-protected PDF?
No, extracting changes the file, so the PDF must be unlocked first at /unlock-pdf/.
