How do I cut or trim an audio file?
To cut an audio clip, open FixDoks's Audio Cutter, select an MP3, WAV or other audio file, drag the handles on the waveform or type exact times, add a fade in or out, then click Cut audio. The waveform is drawn and cut in your browser, so the file is never uploaded, and you can save as MP3 or WAV.

How to use Audio Cutter
- Click Select audio and choose an MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, FLAC file or a video.
- Drag the two handles on the waveform, or type the start and end times.
- Add a fade in or fade out if you like, and press Play selection to check it.
- Choose MP3 or WAV and click Cut audio, then download.
Cut audio visually
When you open a file, FixDoks decodes it in your browser and draws its waveform. Loud parts show as tall peaks and silence as a flat line, so you can see where a song's chorus starts, where a speaker pauses, or where the dead air at the start of a recording ends. Drag the two handles to select the part you want to keep. The times update as you drag, and you can type exact values for fine adjustments.
Listen before you save
Play selection plays only the highlighted part, with the fades applied, and a red line shows the playback position. Adjust and listen again until the cut is exactly right. Nothing is saved until you click Cut audio.
Fade in and fade out
A hard cut in the middle of music can sound abrupt or produce a click. A short fade smooths the edges. For ringtones and alarms, a 1 to 2 second fade in stops the sound from startling you. For clips taken from the middle of a song, a 1 to 3 second fade out gives a natural ending. Fades are linear and are applied exactly as you hear them in the preview.
MP3 or WAV?
- MP3 (192 kbps) is small and plays everywhere. Best for ringtones, sharing and music.
- WAV is uncompressed and is saved instantly without the engine download. Best if you will edit the clip further or need maximum quality.
Making a ringtone
Most phones accept ringtones up to about 30 to 40 seconds. Select your favourite part, add a short fade in and fade out, and save as MP3. On Android, copy the MP3 to the Ringtones folder or pick it in Settings, Sound. iPhones use the M4R format through GarageBand or a computer; you can convert the cut clip to M4A with the Audio Converter first.
Supported files
MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, Opus, FLAC and the audio from MP4, MOV and WebM videos, up to 100 MB. If your browser cannot decode a format natively, the tool uses its built-in engine to read it, which may take a moment the first time.
To cut a video instead, use Trim Video. To grab the audio from a video as a whole, use MP4 to MP3.
Private
Your audio is decoded and cut in the browser. It is never uploaded, which makes it safe for interviews, voice notes and unreleased music.
