How do I rotate a PDF that came out sideways?

Why do PDF pages come out sideways?
Pages usually end up sideways or upside down for two reasons: a scanner fed the paper in from the wrong edge, or a photo of a document was taken in landscape when it should be portrait. Either way, the actual content of the page is fine, it's just the rotation flag that's wrong. This tool fixes that flag directly, so nothing about the page content changes.

Does rotation carry over correctly?
Yes, a rotated page still prints and displays the right way up in any modern PDF reader, browser or printer driver, because rotation is a standard part of the PDF format, not a special trick. If you later add page numbers with add page numbers, the numbers are placed upright even on a page that has been rotated, rather than sideways with the rest of the content.
Common problems
- Only some pages are wrong. Tap those page thumbnails first to select them, then rotate; the rest of the document is left alone.
- Rotated the wrong direction. Rotating twice in one direction has the same effect as rotating once the other way, or use 180 degrees if a page ends up upside down.
- PDF is locked. A password or permission-protected file needs unlocking first at unlock PDF, since rotating changes the file.
