How do I record my screen online?
To record your screen, open FixDoks's Screen Recorder, choose the frame rate and whether to capture tab or system sound and your microphone, click Start recording, then pick a tab, window or screen in the browser's dialog. Recording uses your browser's built-in capture, so nothing is uploaded, and you can download the result as MP4 or WebM with no watermark.

How to use Screen Recorder
- Choose the frame rate and quality, and whether to record system or tab sound and your microphone.
- Click Start recording and pick a browser tab, a window or your entire screen in the browser dialog.
- Do what you want to record. Click Stop, or Stop sharing in the browser bar, when you are done.
- Preview the recording and download it. If it was saved as WebM, you can convert it to MP4 here.
Record your screen without installing anything
Modern browsers can capture the screen directly. FixDoks uses that built-in capability together with the browser's own video recorder, so there is no extension, app or account involved. Recording happens on your computer, and the video is never uploaded. There is no watermark and no time limit apart from your computer's memory.
What you can record
- A browser tab: the cleanest option for demos of websites and web apps. Chrome and Edge can also capture the tab's sound.
- A window: a single app such as PowerPoint, Excel or a code editor.
- The entire screen: everything you see, including switching between apps.
Recording sound
Tick Record tab or system sound to capture audio playing on the computer. Chrome and Edge support tab audio on all systems, and full system audio on some systems such as Windows when you share the entire screen; remember to tick the "share audio" box in the browser's dialog. Firefox and Safari currently record video without system sound. Tick Record my microphone to narrate. When both are on, the tool mixes them into one track.
MP4 or WebM?
Recent versions of Chrome, Edge and Safari can record straight to MP4, which is what you get when available. Other browsers save WebM, which plays in browsers and VLC. If you need MP4, click Convert to MP4 after recording. Conversion happens on your device and takes roughly as long as the recording for HD video, so for long recordings it may be faster to upload the WebM directly to platforms like YouTube, which accept it.
Tips for a good recording
- Close notifications and unrelated tabs so nothing private pops up.
- Use 30 fps for tutorials and presentations. Choose 60 fps only for games or fast motion, as files are larger.
- Choose Small file quality for long meetings or talks, where fine detail matters less.
- Recordings are kept in memory until you download them, so save long recordings promptly.
After recording
Cut the start and end with Trim Video, shrink the file with Compress Video, or turn a short part into a GIF for documentation with Video to GIF.
Phones and tablets
Most mobile browsers do not allow web pages to capture the screen. Use the recorder built into your phone instead: on Android swipe down for the Screen record tile, on iPhone add Screen Recording in Control Centre.
