How do I convert a JPG to PNG?

Why convert JPG to PNG?
JPG is the standard format for photos because it makes files small. PNG is lossless: once an image is saved as PNG, saving it again never loses more detail. Converting to PNG makes sense when you plan to edit an image several times, when a website or app only accepts PNG, or when you want to add transparency later in an editor.
What conversion can and cannot do
Converting a JPG to PNG freezes the image exactly as it is. It does not restore detail that JPG compression already removed, and it does not make the background transparent by itself. The white background of a product photo stays white. To cut out the background, use a background remover first, then save as PNG.
Expect a bigger file
A PNG of a photo is often 3 to 10 times larger than the JPG it came from, because PNG stores every pixel without lossy compression. That is normal. If size matters, keep the JPG, or run the PNG through the PNG compressor, which reduces colours to shrink it while staying in PNG format.

Batch conversion and names
Each converted file keeps the original name with the new extension, so scan-01.jpg becomes scan-01.png. With many files, use Download all to get a single ZIP. The pixel size does not change: a 3000 × 2000 JPG becomes a 3000 × 2000 PNG. If you also need a different size, run the PNGs through the image resizer afterwards.
JPG to PNG for printing
Print shops generally accept both formats. PNG avoids any further compression during editing, but for simply printing a photo, a high quality JPG is equally good and much smaller to send.
Adding transparency after converting
If your goal is a logo or product with no background, convert here and then remove the background with an AI background remover, or erase it in an editor. PNG keeps the transparent areas you create; a JPG would fill them with white again when saved.
Tip: if you only need a lossless copy for editing, keep the PNG as your working file and export a JPG at the very end.
